Protest to UN Secretary General

November 17, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

A Red Shirt prisoner support group led by trade unionist and political activist, Jittra Kotchadet, delivered a letter to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, in Bangkok today. The group also staged a small protest of 200 people outside the Government House in Bangkok and called for the immediate release on bail of all lese majeste and political prisoners.

The group, who called themselves the Social Activists Network for Democracy, made this protest on the same day that rumours are swirling Bangkok that military-ousted former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra may receive a pardon for a conviction relating to what some consider to be a trumped up charge of corruption regarding a piece of land the former PM’s wife bought at market rates several years ago.
